My FIRST
YES that’s right, my very first destination motherhood session!!! Here’s the back story … Allison who is an amazing Kansas City photographer (she doesn’t even know how good she is) and I met over a year ago via Instagram. We belong to a private motherhood photography group and instantly became friends from afar, now chatting almost everyday. We are both attracted to similar personal and business lifestyles. Living simple and healthy, and photographing our clients in a minimal modern way. It’s great to have a photographer buddy you can pitch ideas to back and forth, and receive instant feedback. Everyone needs a person like this in their life especially if they run a small business. Go find your person, I did!
As portrait photographers we both know how tricky it is to photograph children, let alone our own. They are way too comfortable behind the camera and in their space. It’s quite funny how much they try to negotiate that next photo or pose, always leading to a clever treat, toy or activity they normally wouldn’t get. You know I’m right! So … why not hire one of your trusted favorite photographers to come to you, to help you with achieving the adorable photos you produce yet crave so much with your own. Someone who you love and admire! This is exactly what Allison did, she’s a genius. I’m so happy and thankful, for many reasons. First, it got me out of my comfort zone and out of my city that I never leave. I’m a homebody and this was my first flight alone, crazy right? Sure I was a bit anxious. However, we got to know each other over the next coming months prior to me arriving, which helped immensely. Secondly, she has her own studio too. We share a very similar aesthetic with our photography so I knew I would be in a space I could adapt to quickly and create what I needed. Thirdly, she had private guest quarters to host me overnight which was wonderful! I even had delicious homemade oat bars and lip balm waiting for me. Allison was a top notch host and I will forever remember this trip!!! I’m still thinking about the memories we created with her three spunky children. Snuggling her youngest is imprinted in my brain so I can only imagine how she’s feeling after seeing her images. xo
